It seems that drives increase latency over time and exceed the AHCI (hardcoded?) 31000 msec timeout. It will be great if FreeBSD could support these new SMR drives without disabling cache flushing on ZFS. Mar 05, 2017 · I have not used the AHCI drive but it is supported by HP. I do not think the AHCI version is still available for purchase new anymore, at least as the HP Z Turbo G1 which comes with the nice adapter card and support. This post is for the NVME version as the AHCI does not seem to be an issue for folks but I feel worth mentioning. since the upgrade to 11.2.0.4 I have AHCI command timeout messages. I get the messages since the the last two or three updates of NAS4Free/XigmaNAS. The current installed version of XigmaNAS is 11.2.0.4 - Omnius (revision 5762). FreeBSD Intel sponsored a NVM Express driver for FreeBSD's head and stable/9 branches. The nvd(4) and nvme(4) drivers are included in the GENERIC kernel configuration by default since FreeBSD version 10.2 in 2015. FreeBSD will generally run on i386-based laptops, albeit with varying levels of support for certain hardware features such as sound, graphics, power management, and PCCARD expansion slots. These features tend to vary in idiosyncratic ways between machines, and frequently require special-case support in FreeBSD to work around hardware bugs or FreeBSD-11-RELEASE hosting a bhyve(8) guest with a physical device as storage backend (regardless if accessed through virtio-blk or ahci-hd) corrupts guest-disk access if there's also a passthrough device attached. If you use a file-backed ahci-hd (or virtio-blk) device, the problem doesn't show up, regardelss if there's passthru involved or not.
